The Gulf Region Sea Grant programs held an oil spill science seminar, Building resilient communities: Lessons learned from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, on Tuesday, September 27th at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, MS. Participants in the seminar discussed traits that made communities resilient after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill as well as lessons learned in overcoming disasters. The group also explored various programs and resources that are available to communities to build resilience. Melissa Finucane, Director of The Consortium for Resilient Gulf Communities (CRGC), and Janel Lowman, fellow CRGC team member from the University of South Alabama’s Coastal Resource & Resiliency Center (CRRC), attended the seminar to participate in a panel on learning about available resources.
